How Go-Raksha reduced / eliminated slavery in ancient India --- bullocks provided plentiful cheaper labor . India was first country in world to eliminate slavery. And one reason was --- bullock labor became plentiful due to go-raksha that was susdized by rich via donations. . In ancient Greece \ Rome , some 60% to 80% population was slave and slavery lasted till 300 AD. Arab / Turk / Moguls had slavery for long long time. China too had slavery till 1600 AD. But slavery ended in ancient India loooong back - way before villages started. It appears that large scale slavery never came in Indian sub-continent. One reason was go-raksha which was subsidized by donations from rich. . Agriculture required huge amount of labor. And slave is intelligent than a bullock. And a slave is fed by his parents till he is 14 to 16 years old, and then he is enslaved in slave raids and then sold. All this makes a slave cheaper than bullock !! Which is why most societies outside India preferred to keep bullocks for meat rather then use them for labor. . But in India, go-pooja and related "daan" subsidized cows as well as bullocks. And slaughter became sinful. So bullocks became plentiful. And so there was almost no need for human slaves !! . Today, bullocks are needed more than past !! Thats because urine is needed is huge quantity for pesticide. It is now proven that chemical pesticide cause caner and GM crops which have toxins built into plants are worse. The only remedy left to kill pests etc is animal urine. Further , urine has bacteria which improve soil,. While chemical pesticides not dont have such bacteria, but the kill such bacteria as well. And likewise animal dung is better fertilizer than chemical fertilier because animal dung has bacteria which improve soil, while chemical fertilizer doesnt have these bacteria kills those baacteria. . Using bullock instead of tractor too has merits because India is fuel deficient and we import 65% or more of the crude / gas we consume. Also , tractors hardens the ground and reduce fertility. And tractors emit more carbon dioxide . fumes etc then bullocks. . All in all, goraksha and traditions to donate for cows reduced slavery in ancient India to zero. And today too, it can serve 10s of purposes. .
