Can a less unethical law-draft decrease strength of nation wrt another nation and can less unethical law-draft make a nation stronger ? IMO --- less unethical law-draft always increase strength. . IMO, strength should be always compared . It is pointless to evaluate strength in isolation. And likewise, whether a law is ethical or unethical should only be compared. i.e. given two law-drafts, which one is less unethcal. Evaluating ethicalness of a law in isolation is pointless. . Now say there are two nations --- nation-A and nation-B. Say there are two law-drafts law-X and law-Y wrt same issue. The issue can be anything ---- interest rate or slavery or casteism or inheritance or taxation or military trainning or education. . Say Nation-A practices a law-X amongst its citizens. . While nation-B practices law-Y . . And over time nation-A becomes stronger, may be due to that law-X , and destroys / enslaves nation-B. . Now following QUESTIONS come arise . (a) if the law-X was more unethical compared to law-Y, then how come that more unethical law made nation-A more powerful than nation-B? . (b) if law-X was less unethical , then why didnt nation-B replace its law-Y with law-X ? . ====== Answered will be subjective because very definition of ethics is . There are numerous examples. eg Cetrain nations (or societies) such as islamic societies from 500 AD onwards banned interest on loans citing it as unethical. Certain societies like Hindus of same time said that "capping interest rates or banning interest on loans is unethical , and so unlimited interest rate should be permitted !!" . Many , like myself, believe that unrestricted rate of interest was one factor which weakened the Hindus and ban on interest rates strengthened the the then muslims. . Likewise, Christians "banned" private ownership of temples and inheritance. While Hindus continued with private ownership of temples and also permitted inheritance. And many , like myself, believed that inheritance and private ownership on temples weakened the Hindu societies. . So the question where "are less unethical laws are reasons behind strengths of the societies" and "if so, why other societies didnt accept those laws" become important. . I dont see one answer on these questions. But IMO, it is important that each activist decides his answers to these questions --- whatever his answers may be.
